Tipping the Velvet - Sarah Waters
An eye-opening, though slightly schematic, trip through some lesser-known areas of Victorian society. Quite well-written. I've read it twice now; the second time, I was going to give it away, opened it to the first page, and found myself sucked into reading it right through again. The first time I read this book, I thought Nancy didn't come to life as a well-rounded character; but I appreciated her more the second time. And the ending, as always, made me very happy.
