Curve Away from Stillness: Science Poems - John Allman
Recent science continues to bring into view a wealth of things humans have never seen before, and more importantly, new ideas. John Allman's idea is that these things are a rich, underutilized source of metaphors for poets. I don't disagree with that, but as for his implementation of it, I'm ambivalent. I have a really hard time understanding his poetic technique, but what I can make of it neither evokes the wonder I get from reading about scientific work, nor engages with ideas I find interesting; occasional flashes of congruence are outweighed by things that seem a bit trivial.
