Holes - Louis Sachar
What fun! I was impressed by the economical way the story was told, with not a wasted word, and clearly structured even when switching between the past and the present. I enjoyed reading it; Stanley, and especially Zero (Hector) are really likable characters. It wasn't as quite as dark and scary as I'd expected, although crossing the desert created some suspense, and the death of Kate Barlow was downright disturbing. The supposedly terrible Warden didn't impress me, though.
